Sloughing off & showing a little skin

Yesterday I was so glued to my monitors that I forgot it was Wednesday, not Tuesday, until I arrived home.  It’s a new month!  One of the best.  I love April.  The sun doesn’t set until 8, life seems to pick up speed and allow for languid relaxation after work at the same time.  Tonight I’ll be enjoying one of my favorite springtime activities: having a drink al fresco with some wonderful womenfolk after a solid day at the office.  Girls night is something my friends and I try to keep up with regularly, which isn’t always easy when busy schedules abound.  When we do manage to find a mutually agreeable time and place (oftentimes this is best achieved by a last minute request: “Who’s in?” – as is the case today), I am reminded how lucky I am to have such talented, intelligent, funny, beautiful and fierce friends.  The best kind of reality check.

Speaking of beautiful lady friends, the above image was sent to me earlier today as an item of interest because it was apparently taken in 1927 at “Thayer Studio” right here in DC.  Some light research revealed no indication of the original address.  I wonder what this was for?  Friends snapping a commemorative photo?  A publicity shot for an all-girl revue?  Look at those heels!  And that hair!

And as for new months (and new seasons), I marked the beginning of both this morning by tacking up the second of the four pages of the beautiful letterpress calendar Heather sent me for Christmas.  April, May, June!

Should you visit Heather’s personal blog, Things & Things, check out her latest post, “Bodies.” A fascinating roundup of some contemporary pieces on obesity, eating disorders, and general corporeal dysfunction in the U.S.  I have barely been able to get through Kim Noorda’s eating disorder rehab diary in the latest issue of Vogue.  What other population in recent history has been so at odds with itself in terms of bodily identity?

And on that note, I’m going to go enjoy that glass of wine.
